Call in to speak with the host
Donny Ditchim is a ficticious name.
Two months ago River City Wrestling made a commitment to provide a FREE two hour show for the ALS Society's Annual Walk in Assinaboine Park on June 2nd at 11am. Since the Park is City of Winnipeg property, liability insurance is required, which we have. Shortly after the last Maples CC show Donny Ditchem (not his real name) called the insurance department claiming that although our audience was covered, the RCW WRESTLERS themselves weren't insured. Wrestlers had always been considered independant contractors working for multiple promotions. Donny demanded that the show be cancelled unless all the wrestlers on the card showed proof of insurance before entering the ring. Our current policy was in the hands and on file with the City six weeks ago. The head insurance adjuster and I went over the policy point by point and everything was in order. Since Donny's call earlier this month, they now require a major addition to the policy that was never there before. The policy as it stands now costs $2300 annually. The broker estimates that if the changes could be made, it would add another $2000+ to that cost. What Donny has done is put an end to Winnipeg Community Club wrestling events. Wrestling will go on, there's always Polish Halls, Legions and bars who are happy to have wrestling. I just feel it's pretty underhanded for Donny to do this just before a Charity Event like the ALS Annual Walk, where wrestlers representing all the local promotions had offered to work for free. Thanks guys.
