    Curious about optimism

I think of myself as an optimistic person. I am hopeful about the future, I believe in taking advantage of opportunities, in not giving up on myself, and I know I am resilient despite tough circumstances.
But how did I develop this quality?
As a Coach I work with people from every walk of life and this quality of optimism varies greatly. Perhaps part of it is genetic and certainly how we're raised is an influence. But this doesn't seem to fully explain how we can view ourselves, our environment, our experiences so differently.
I do know that optimism, realistic optimism not Pollyannaism, contributes to happiness and success. I also know it can be cultivated.
Where do you rate yourself on the 'optimism scale'? Are you satisfied with where you are? What would being more optimistic be like? What might it allow you to do that you're not doing now?

  • Original Air Date:

Time: what it is, what it isn't and how to use it well

We all struggle with multiple demands both personally and professionally. In this discussion we will explore the concept of time, how we experience, what we do to 'manage' it and how we can make it work best in our lives.

  • Date / Time:

    The Power of Thoughts

We are constantly living in a stream of thought. For those of us who have ever tried meditation this point is quickly driven home; our minds are less than quiet.
It's interesting to notice the kinds of thoughts that float through your mind. For many people this exercise is illuminating.
We know that our emotions are influenced by our thoughts and, perhaps more importantly, that our actions (or inaction) begins with the seeds of thought. No doubt what we think has a great influence in our lives.
I invite you to notice your thoughts today. What are the themes?  How do your thoughts help you? How do they make your life more difficult?
We can always challenge our own thoughts and, by doing so, we can begin to change how we feel and how we exercise our choices.

  • Original Air Date:

"Why am I not getting the most out of my life?" Understanding what gets in the way

This show explores the reasons people find it difficult to create happiness and meaning in the personal & professional lives. Discussion will include strategies to help people set goals based on their values.

    Life changes-everyday

I am always struck by what it feels like to sit in front of a blank page. I can only imagine what writers experience as they are confronted all the time with the endless decisions of what and how to express themselves in words.
There is a certain similar quality as each day begins; we may not feel it because we are thinking of all the predictable things we need and, perhaps, want to do but it is there. If not a 'blank page' a 'yet to be determined' page.
We are always in the midst of change.
What would it mean to acknowledge the real possibilities of each day? What would be a daring choice for you to make today that would remind you of what you value most?
What direction would you like this day to take? What helps you create direction in your life?
I guess my blank pages often turn up more questions than answers.
Please share your thoughts and experiences, if you're so inclined.
