   Jerry grew up in foster care and graduated from high school at age 17. He worked his way through college, starting at Louisiana State University and then graduating at Northwestern State University in Louisiana with a B.S. degree in accounting in 1961. After 10 years as an accountant, Jerry left the accounting profession and entered Real Estate industry. In 1970, his first year in real estate, he made the Million Dollar Club. The second year Jerry was promoted to Office Manager. In 1974 he opened his first of eight real estate offices. In 1974, Jerry met his wife, who came to work for him and they were married in 1975.Together the Smith’s have five children and fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In June 2004, Jerry was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, an untreatable and incurable lung disease and given six months to two years to live. His doctor told him, "You have A Death Sentence and there is no Hope, ANYWHERE WORLDWIDE". Jerry began searching worldwide for a possible cure and in June 2006, found a doctor in Germany who had a lab and was willing to analyze his blood and attempt to treat the disease. After several months of research, he produced a serum using Jerry’s blood and two years later, he was cured. In June, 2008, Jerry semi-retired from real estate to write his book titled "Does God Give Us More Than We Can Bear?" In June 2010, Jerry started public speaking about his story in order to reach out to others to offer them hope whether they were suffering from childhood traumas or diseases.
