Call in to speak with the host
Kathy writes, blogs, speaks and is dedicated in working towards dialogue and education on issues of faith and sexual orientation/gender identity. She has the unique voice in the dialogue as a Christian with a moderate voice that can easily engage in productive rhetoric. When speaking with non-affiming listeners, her style is strong and educated, yet inclusive and respectful.
Kathy Baldock has been an Evangelical Christian for almost 30 years, attending conservative congregations. She had not considering anything more on the issues of the GLBT Community other than what she had heard from her churches until, in 2001, it became personal. While hiking, she befriended a lesbian, Native American agnostic woman. The challenge to both love her gay neighbor and be consistent with Christian doctrine became real as they hiked thousands of miles together over the next few years.
The transition from tolerance to advocacy grew as Kathy expanded her relationships with gay friends and attended a GLBT Christian conference in 2006. Drawn by God to understand the GLBT people and their stories, she was the one of the first straight Christian to attend the Gay Christian Conference. Joining hundreds of gay Christians in worship on the first night of the conference resonated deeply within her Spirit. An ally was certainly birthed, but until there was personal reconciliation of Scripture and sexual orientation, Kathy could not yet become an advocate. Stay tune to learn more....
