In this episode, host Robin Masiewicz and regular guests Jamie and Gloria continue their discussion about learning to focus on one thing at a time and doing tasks more consciously. Robin talks about Zen Tasking and eliminating distractions. The group also talks about Zen driving, hypermiling, and the advent of self-driving cars.

Key points from this episode:

  • Focus on one thing at a time, and give it your full attention
  • When we try to multi-task, what actually happens is we end up switching back-and-forth between tasks, paying less attention to both.
  • The more you switch back-and-forth, the more time you waste and the lower your quality of work
  • Distractions such as cell phone and text messaging are addictive, but you can train yourself not to respond to every ping or poke.
  • Schedule time for yourself; give yourself some uninterrupted time to work, relax, or reflect
