MC LYTE
(aka Lana Moorer)
Reared in Brooklyn, New York, MC LYTE is keeping her finger on hiphop’s
pulse while also seriously pursuing an acting career.
MC LYTE stared on UPN’s primetime hit sitcom “Half & Half” as “Ky” the record
company President. Lyte also served as a recurring celebrity judge on CBS’s “STAR
SEARCH” with Arsenio Hall.
Lyte was also a familiar face on television with her recurring character “Lana” on the
WB’s long running comedy, “For Your Love”. Lyte can also dish up the drama as
evidenced in her roles on the crime dramas, CBS’ “The District” and FOX’S “New York
Undercover” and “Get Real” series. Lyte’s television credits also include UPN’s
“Platinum”, “In The House” and “Moesha”, Nickelodeon’s “Cousin Skeeter “and
MTV’s “DNC”.
In the world of film, Lyte costarred in “Playa’s Ball”, which tells the story of the
NBA’s newest rookie whose life is turned upside by a paternity suit and rape charge.
Lyte also shows what’s really going down in an all female prison in the Trimark/Lions
Gate’s feature release entitled, Civil Brand.
Lyte also landed roles in feature films including Extreme Pictures’ “Train Ride”, Cinergi
Pictures’ “Burn Hollywood Burn”, Warner Brother’s “Fly By Night”; and the
independent features, “Luv Tails” and “Short Handed”.
With her signature style and recognizable voice it only makes sense that Lyte would be
tapped for national voiceover campaigns. Lyte has been the voice behind the VH1 Hip
Hop Honors, Wherehouse Music, CocaCola,McDonald’s and Nike national campaigns.
Lyte has also represented Mattel, in the same capacity, by giving her voice to the
overwhelmingly popular Mattel Diva Stars “Chat doll”—Tia. Lyte can also be heard
hosting her own weekend radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio.
LYTE is the FIRST rap artist EVER to perform at Carnegie Hall and the FIRST
female rapper to EVER receive a gold single. MC LYTE’s inspiring 1993 anthem,
the classic “Ruffneck”, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Single. (In fact
she was the FIRST female solo rapper ever nominated for a Grammy!). Her latest
album “Undaground Heat vol.1, Hosted by Jamie Foxx”, (2003) garnered this rap
legend her 2 nd career Grammy nomination 10 years later on her own label
SGI/CMM. The single “Ride Wit Me” also received a BET award nomination for
Best Female rap performance.
But her newest musical offering, “BACK TO LYTE” (with the smash single,
“WONDER YEARS”, produced by DJ PREMIER) could very well be the best MC
LYTE project yet!... Check it out, along with the new video @ www.mclyte.
com!
STAY TUNED…
It’s been an incredible ride for MC LYTE! To date, MC LYTE has released 10 albums
(9 plus a “GREATEST HITS”), and has cowritten and performed the television theme
songs for Fox’s “Dark Angel” and BET’s “Holla”. Lyte shows no signs of slowing down
on the music, film or television scenes. Lyte is also very active in many social projects,
involving herself in antiviolence campaigns, Rock the Vote, and contributing her time
and expertise to several nonprofit organizations.
She is a proud member of the National Sorority Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc.
Watch out for Home Décor, “The Lana Moorer Collection” by MC LYTE!
MC LYTE is also an acclaimed author, with her first literary offering, “JUST MY
TAKE”, words of poetry & inspiration for today’s Hip Hop generation. In typical MC
LYTE fashion, she selfpublished this book & it is available @ www.officialmclyte.com.
MC LYTE IS SHINING BRIGHTER THAN EVER!!
