Tune in on April 7th, 2009 at 3:00 pm EST to hear a fascinating discussion with author and world-renowned psychologist, Bruce M. Hood as he discusses his new book,
SuperSense: Why We Believe in the Unbelievable
, in stores April 7th. Editor Eric Brandt will join Hood as he explores the SuperSense and why humans continue to believe in things beyond what’s rational or natural.
Superstitious habits are common. Do you ever cross your fingers, knock on wood, avoid walking under ladders, or step around black cats? Sentimental value often supersedes material worth. If someone offered to replace your childhood teddy bear or wedding ring with a brand new, exact replica, would you do it? How about $20 for trying on a sweater owned by Jeffrey Dahmer? Do you believe in an afterlife? Have you ever felt like you’re being watched from behind?
Hood will explore how we may be pre-wired with a mind design that creates our “SuperSense” that shapes our intuitions and superstitions and is essential to the way we learn to understand the world and in binding us together as a society. Hood will also take calls and questions from listeners.
