In fact, Haitian soldiers have participated in the American revolution in 1779 - The siege of Savannah. Ironically the only society to which Haitians have failed or seemed to have no interests in their own. In most recent decades - at least in the last fifty years - Haitians have been forced out of the country because political turmoil and social and economic instabilities. Despite the fact the heroism of Haitian ancestors who have helped many South American country to become independent - Venezuela - Haiti has been labeled as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. In addition to facing constant and continuous political and social unrests and instabilities, many Haitian leaders are corrupt and do not enforce human rights and civil liberties. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, many Haitians (some very educated) have chosen exil over resistance. Some have received asylum in the United States and Canada whereas others in Europe. Nonetheless, a number of Haitian citizens, in late 1980s and early 1990s have attempted and successfully illegally immigrated to North America and other Caribbean nations. The reality is whether some Haitians were granted political asylum, have legally or illegally immigrated to the United States or Canada, many have accomplished incommensurable goals. Haitian-Americans can contribute to Haiti's social, economic and educational development. Many of them fear to participating in any social activities - volunteering or investing - in Haiti because they claim that most cities in Haiti are dangerous. Others simply want to leave behind Haitian cultures. Listeners to this talk show will understand why and how they can contribute to changes in Haiti.
