The book of Deuteronomy is like a treaty between a king and his subjects. Before entering into the Promised Land, Moses goes over with the people al that God has done for the nation and laws for the nation. He also urges them to commit themselves to God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Moses points out in Deuteronomy 1:2 that the place where they were going was typically an 11-day journey from Mount Sinai; but it took them 40 years because of sin.
God says to the people through Moses in verses 6 & 7, " You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on."
The lesson for us in this is that God guides us to the land He wants us to claim, and we can also rebel, as the children of Israel did. Those that lacked faith wandered in the wilderness and died off. How much better to face fears and put faith in God and go on a heavenly adventure right here on earth?
