Call in to speak with the host
We see again in this chapter that leaders resent Moses' position as the person who speaks to God. They accuse Moses of setting himself above the assembly. But, of course, God himself set Moses in his position.
The ground actually splits open and swallowsw up the grumblers along with their households and their possessions. Fire also consumed 250 other men who angered God. The people still don't get it because the very next day they grumble against Moses for killing the people! Obviously Moses can't cause the earth to swallow people or cause fire to fall from the sky!
In spite of all that had come against him, Moses placed himself between God and the people, trying to spare them from God's wrath.
