God really did it!  He blessed Abraham and Sarah, who were well past child-bearing years, a son.  Isaac was a most wonderful promise fulfilled, and God worked a miracle to make it happen.  Not only had they waited throughout their entire long marriage for a child, but they waited 20 years from the time God first promised them a son to the time Isaac came along.

God does fulfill all of his promises, but there is one very unavoidable catch.  Waiting is required!  Waiting is a very Biblical thing.  It is to resist the urge to try and make a promise happen (which is what Ishmael represents) and to go about doing what is right day in and day out while confidently hoping and believing in the fulfillment of God's promises.

I think the best thing we all wait for as believers in Jesus Christ is the promise of heaven.  Whatever the most awesome earthly adventure is that the world's wealthiest person can enjoy, multiply it times infinity, and that's how much better heaven will be.
