Kindergartners are receiving more and more homework from school and are expected to know a certain set of sight words upon entering Kindergarten. The academic requirements for reading preparation now begin in Kindergarten. No longer do kindergartners play most of the day, instead they are required to do school work. This new academic outlook is surprising to some parents. Are we helping our children to develop academically or our we creating a wider gap in academic success? Does learning to read in Kindergarten help prepare you for 1st and 2nd grade literacy or are we creating a pool of 2nd and 3rd graders who don't meet the new standards? Our guest speaker the Director of Georgia Education Consulting will be here today to discuss that with you. Stay tuned
