Sandra's son was murdered by gang violence. Sandra, a mother of 3, preschool teacher had moved into a new big house and was really proud of herself. They had been homeless for a time and her younger son had gotten really sick (a blood disease)which landed him in the hospital. Finally she had all her kids under one roof again and things were looking up. Sandra and Jerell, her oldest son had big plans. He was looking for a job. Jerell had gone to college and got injured playing basketball, so his desire to stay in college changed. He was the president of the Black Hawks M.C. Her boys were both doing well and she was very proud of them. No jail, no tattoos, no baby momma drama, Sandra was very proud of them and the job she did raising them. On 3/11/09 Jerell gave her a kiss and told her that he would be right back. Within a few minutes they heard the police helicopter flying directly over their house. It was so loud that Sandra and her neighbor went outside to see what was going on, later on that night she went to the store and saw the yellow tape, but who knew. Sandra then recieved a phone call at 1:00 a.m., The detective told her Jerrell was at the hospital and she needed to come. When she arrived, the doctor told her they had tried to revive her son, BUT HE WAS DEAD. The hardest words for any mother to hear. My beloved son, Jerell Omarr Green, is dead. Jerell was walking to the store and just happenened to meet up with a young man(a gang member) going the same direction and they walked to the store together. Another gang member shot them. Sandra is creating a youth foundation to help at risk youth, because alot of kids are walking around feeling unloved and hopeless. Sandra wants to make sure that Jerell's murder is not in vain. Sandra says, "Everyday my heart aches for my son. Jerell was my first born and he was me through ups and downs. I feel naked without him. He was the dad/big brother/son/storyteller/backbone of our family."
