Chief Kevin Smith, El Segundo Fire Department -- encore

Our guest this morning is Kevin Smith, Fire Chief of the El Segundo Fire Department.

Kevin has a Bachelor’s degree from Cal State University, Los Angeles in Public Administration and a Master’s degree from Cal State University, Long Beach in Emergency Services Administration. Additionally, Kevin is a certified Chief Officer through the California State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Kevin joined the El Segundo Fire Department in August of 1985 as a Firefighter. He promoted to the rank of Engineer in April 1990, was promoted to the rank of Captain in October 1994 and became Battalion Chief in June 2001. 

Kevin has been serving as the Fire Chief of the El Segundo Fire Department since May 1, 2006. 

Kevin is very active in the community he serves. He is currently a member of the El Segundo Rotary Club, a former member of the El Segundo Optimists Club and also serves as leader at the District level in Rotary.

He is active in the El Segundo Sister City program in which he provides training and surplus fire equipment to firefighters of Guaymas, Mexico. He has also served as the President of the South Bay Police & Fire Memorial Foundation for the last three years.

A Los Angeles native, Kevin resides in El Segundo. He has three children and two granddaughters.
