Our guest this morning is Dennis Jarvis, owner and founder of Spyder Surf Shops in Hermosa Beach.

In 1978, Dennis, a young professional surfer from Hermosa Beach, began to build surfboards with a higher performance design in mind.

At first, these boards were built to better suit his own personal needs to compete in the Professional World Surfing Tour.

Over the past 30+ years Dennis has shaped for top surfers all over the globe with many world champions riding for the SPYDER team.

He has been on the cover of numerous magazines including the coveted SURFER Magazine and has garnered the BEST SHAPER title eight out of 13 times.

Dennis also worked with James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow for the making of POINT BREAK starring Keanu Reeves, where he manufactured all the surfboards and taught Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty and other cast members how to surf.

Known as the “surf doctor” of Hollywood, Dennis has been hired on numerous feature films to create the solid look and feel of the action sport, bringing his expertise in many capacities - from building boards, surf lessons, casting actors and stuntmen to directing the second unit.

You could say he is a true Renaissance man whose roots run deep with foam dust and resin!

Spyder Surf Fest takes place this Saturday, April 5 and will once again bring together the surf industry’s most prominent brands and surfers in Hermosa Beach and Dennis is going to tell us what we can expect at this year’s event.
