Our guest this morning is Julie Sczerbinski.

Julie is a mother of two and is new to the world of emergency preparedness.

Not long ago, she read the book, The Crash Course and in it, author Chris Martenson examines the sustainability of our economy, energy and environment and sums up his findings in this sentence: “Massive change is upon us.”

Massive change would’ve challenged Julie’s Super Target addiction, plus a whole load of conveniences she took for granted in her “just-flip-the-switch” life.

The reality was, her family’s well-being rested in two very unskilled hands.  After several sleepless nights, she decided massive change on a personal scale was in order.

So began a journey that has taken Julie’s family from country club to country living and from fast food to food storage.

Emergency preparedness planning, gardening, mastering back-to-basics skills and learning to live with less fill up her days now.

All the while, events like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, act as confirmation for her—it never hurts to be ready for whatever, whenever.

Hoping to help other modern families be everyday disaster ready and build a more self-reliant life, Julie blogs about her transition and the lessons she’s learned at www.homereadyhome.com.
