Did you know that the word en·thu·si·asm (n-thz-zm) gets its roots from the Greeks and originally meant ecstasy that is inspired by God? In some instances, it implied possession by God. One definition is a positive impulse toward great accomplishment and the other a negative form of religious extremism. It seems that enthusiasm first appeared in the English language in 1603 but kept its ‘possession by God’ definition.
