UWC 6: Capital Punishment On-Site Analysis

Editor's Notes: Please take note that the Audio recap of the show will be availiable later this weekend. Stay Tuned to this site for more details!

    by Andrew Marek

Saturday April 25th 2009, 4,528 screaming fans packed the George Mason Patriot Center for UWC  Capital Punishment.  This was UWC’s fourth trip to the DC Metropolitan area that featured The Huntington Beach Bad Boy Tito Ortiz as well as a slew of other notable attendee’s witnessing the future superstars of MMA.  Kicking off the night it was déjà vu all over again as Woodbridge’s own Kris McCrary displayed complete domination with a first round ending rear naked choke over Ronnie Wuest.  This was the Army Veteran’s third UWC appearance and all 3 of his wins have come by first round submission (rear naked choke).  Look for big things to come in the future for McCray as the sky is the limit for this young hot prospect.  The 2008 NCAA Wrestling Champion Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis was up next against Terry “T-Rex” Cohens .  T-Rex had no answer for Mr. Wonderful’s relentless ground and pound that came to a halt at 4:29 of the first round for the TKO win for Davis.  Wrestling is the strongest base to have in MMA as you can dictate where you want the fight to be.  If there is any indication of past NCAA Champions i.e. Brock Lesnar, Mark Coleman then gold will be something that Phil Davis can look forward to in the future.   Bodog and EliteXC vet Binky Jones not only had to contend with Frank “The Crank” Camacho but also the always vocal Lloyd Irvin supporters.  The night’s first KO couldn’t have started the night off any better for the Lloyd Irvin camp as Binky was a recipient of a big right hand from Camacho.  The Damien “The Reach” Dantibo/Ron “Choir Boy” Stallings contest now holds the UWC’s record for fastest fight edging out Cody Donovan/Wade Drake at UWC Confrontation.  13 seconds was all she wrote as “The Reach” lived up to his nickname with a head kick and straight right followed up by punches on the choir boy.  Reshad Woods made his triumphant return exactly one year after his spectacular performance against Ron Stallings.  Reshad did not disappoint as he proved to be tough as nails against the always controversial UFC/TUF season 6 vet War Machine.  Reshad delivered a vicious knee that would have knocked out most men but he was up against a Machine no pun intended.  War Machine’s ground game was too much for Woods as he succumbed to a rear naked choke at 4:16 of the second round.  The main event of the evening was Mike “The Hulk” Easton’s first title defense against Josh “Tazz” Ferguson.  Easton won the UWC Bantamweight title at UWC Man “O” War back in February and was looking to make a statement to all 135’s that the title wasn’t going to come off his waist that easily.  Easton ending up securing the same hold that he won the title with by securing a guillotine choke on Ferguson at 4:06 of the first round.  All in all it was a great night of MMA action from top to bottom.  The Ultimate Warrior Challenge’s Capital Punishment was a ultimate reality that did not disappoint. Now that’s a shoot!
