  The Might Potato?

  I was speaking with one of my clients last night, a wonderful lady that I had done some Shamanic Healing work with a few weeks before. She indicated that she found the process so empowering and that she was immediately seeing positive changes reflected in her life. The greatest story, however, was about a little ol' potato. You see, this wonderful lady was dealing with control issues in all aspects of her life, however, in this particular story it had to do with the kitchen. You see, she would try to control everything from managing how much food was prepared so there wouldn't be waste to deciding she knew the best way to go about completing any task in the kitchen - her ability to see the linear process from step a-z and the, in her mind, most expedient way to get there. Hence, much work landed on her shoulders as a result of trying to be "the" one to do everything since she knew the best way to do it anyway...those of you out there that have these kinds of control issues know exactly what I mean (boy can I relate)! So, following her healing work with me, she had a situation where her son and some friends were over and they wanted to learn how to bake a potato. So, rather than doing it herself and showing them how to do it, or even telling them "exactly" how to do it, she provided them with some basic guidance and then left them to figure it out on their own. She said it took everything she had in her not to correct them or give them instructions as she watched them muddle their way through the process, and at the end of the day, the potato was a bit of a loss. However, she breathed her way through the "waste" and "control" issues and sure enough, she was able to look at that potato and say, without any negative feelings or triggers of any kind, "It's just a friggin' potato!"
  
  As she shared this story with me, I though that isn't that just exactly how it happens. Once we've taken the step to heal ourselves we become much more aware of our actions and reactions. However, it is often the small, seemingly mundane activities that end up having the most profound effect on our personal recognition of our own limiting beliefs, behaviours and actions. The key here is to realize how ingrained these issues are for us; to think that the preparation of a potato can get us worked up! If we are this affected by the little things, is it any wonder why we have such difficulties with the bigger things. My advice for today is to take a breath. If you feel tension starting in your body or you feel yourself reacting to a situation or person, just sit this one out - breathe, and watch the situation unfold instead of being an active player. Watch with detachment and pay attention to the differences in your reactions as a result.

  Do you believe hope springs eternal?

  ABSOLUTELY! I also believe that when there is very little left to believe in, that hope is sometimes the only beacon left. Hope for anything, for a better life, for life at all, hope that I am a good person,hope that my children have long happy lives, hope that the planet will someday know peace. Yes, I absolutely believe that hope springs eternal - the more interesting question for me is: What is the origin of hope? How is it we've known since the beginning of time that it has the potential to be one of the most powerful forces in human nature, where does it reside in our physical or light bodies that it is always available to us with barely more than a thought - and in some cases, it comes to us without our conscious thought at all; in our darkest moments? These are questions I wonder about...
