    Date / Time:

    The Cold War (Rick)

As Promised I have the Winners of the Hockey Oscars this week.

    Best Actor

Kurt Russell in Miracle, yeah he was up against 2 Oscar winners, but his ability to play Herb Brooks was just captivating. He really did do justice to the architect of the 1980 Miracle On Ice.

    Best Supporting Actor

Burt Reynolds in Mystery Alaska, Reynolds showed a passion for the game and his town while playing a cold judge who has a change of heart.

Best Hockey Action in a Movie

Rocket by far the best action in any movie with NHL players such as Mike Ricci, Vinny Lecavs and even Sean Avery making cameos. The game play was bang on and you had the feel that you were right in the action.

    Best Comedic Performance

Yvon Barrette from Slap Shot, who can forget the hilarious French Canadian netminder who opens they movie talking about the penalties given in hockey. Or the memorable "Who own the Cheifs" The light hearted moments when he was on screen are often the most overlooked parts of the classic.

Best Movie Based on Real Events

Miracle the movie captured the event of what many consider the greatest moment in US sports history. The 1980 USA V USSR Olympic hockey game. The cast was amazing and for a Disney movie it did not get overly hooky.

    Best Movie Fiction

Slap Shot the movie that took hockey from the arena and put it on the screen. Paul Newman is great as Reg Dunlop and introduces us to the Legends known as the Hanson Brothers.

    Worst Hockey Movie

Slap Shot 2 for everything that Slap Shot was Slap Shot 2 was not. It was terrible, Stephen Baldwin did his best to make a mockery of a classic. I hope Paul Newman slapped him for doing that movie. *note I did not see Slap Shot 3, so I did not have it on the list.

    Best Hockey Movie

Slap Shot it was close with Miracle, but in the end Slap Shot takes it. The antic's of the Chiefs on and off the ice are still going on in the game today. Whether it is the Sabres walking the runway or Denis Gauthier sucker punching, somethings never change. Basically without Slap Shot you don't have Old Time Hockey.

So those are my selections feel free to give your choices and why they would differ from mind
