I am prerecording this show as my heart goes out to the people of Aurora, CO during this time of severe grieving. I used to live in Aurora while I was stationed at the Air Force Base that is located between Aurora and Denver.
I can't imagine the horror seen and felt that fateful night. People packing into a theater to see the opening Midnight showing of the last Batman movie in the series. Excitement must have been the first feelings of the movie goers but 30 minutes into the show changed the mood quickly to terror and a fight for their lives.
What would make a 24 year old genious with a bright future ahead of him drop out of a PhD program, purchase over 6000 rounds of ammunition, an arsonel of guns, booby-trap his apartment, got to a packed theater and open fire on innocent people? This seems to be the question on the minds of everyone, including the investigators.
Could this tragedy been adverted had he shown any signs of a mental problem such as animal abuse? Since the suspect isn't talking, perhaps the answers lie within each of us. What would cause you to snap and commit such a horrific outcry for help? So many people, so much saddness, so much pain. It will take a long time for this town to forget what happened early morning on Friday July 20th. It will take even longer for us to understand why.
There will be no show tomorrow.
