Today on The Neil Haley Show's Caregiver Dave Segment, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Melissa Radke, Author of EAT CAKE. BE BRAVE.

Let me start by saying that reading this seems pretty impersonal and I would prefer we were discussing this over some Chick-fil-A or Diet Coke and queso. But I’ll let it slide, THIS TIME!

So this is where we get to know each other a little, so I’ll go first…
My name is Melissa and I was born after bell-bottoms but before leg warmers. I’ll leave it up to you and Jesus to nail that down.

I am married to my husband David, whom I affectionately refer to as The Attorney General; I do not imagine real-life Attorney Generals to be a lot of fun, wear silly things, do impulsive acts of tom foolery and let the rules slide. And I have now described him perfectly. I mean, he’s funny…but in a very rigid, legal kind of way. And yet, I can find my car keys, my birth certificate and my pants because of this man. I adore him.

I have two children, Remi Hope and Rocco Cooper. I sometimes refer to Remi as my “Purple Heart” because she’s like the medal I got to take home after the war. Just before Remi was born we buried our son, Elisha Cooper, in the prettiest town in Tennessee. After many years of trying to have children and finally being successful only to lose him, we adopted Remi. I heard myself yell at her one day, “I brought you in to this world and I will take you out of it!” Truth is, I didn’t bring her in to it, but I honestly forget that sometimes. She might favor her daddy, but she is me down to her overly dramatic toes. For every bit of spice and sass that Remi brings to our world, Rocco brings the kindness, gentleness and sensitivity to it. He is the yin to her yang. And he’s sweet like his daddy. Thank you sweetbabyJesus for balance.
