It will forever be known as “the movie which makes men cry”. Based on a first novel by Canadian author / baseball fan W.P. Kinsella, 1989’s FIELD OF DREAMS was the film no one believed in but it’s makers. On the surface a Kafka-esque fantasy about an Iowa farmer who (against reason) builds a baseball diamond in the middle of his corn field … with existential results, it was underneath a multi-layered examination of the courage it takes to follow one’s inner voice, and a treatise on manhood at the end of the “me generation” 80s. In celebrating the film’s 25th Anniversary, 12 diverse men from across America (writers, film makers, a comic book artist, actors, restaurateurs and more) step to the plate to take a swing at explaining why FIELD OF DREAMS still grips their hearts and imaginations 25 years later. Includes film audio clips, archival cast / crew interviews, excerpts from James Horner’s score, and new interviews from the 2014 Father’s Day celebration at the Dyersville farm where the film was shot.
