Intelligently scripted by 12 ANGRY MEN's Reginald Rose, smashingly directed by he-man action auteur Andrew V. McLaglen (CAHILL: U.S. MARSHALL, THE SEA WOLVES), and produced by legendary British cinema mogul Euan Lloyd, 1978's mercenary adventure THE WILD GEESE (featuring an all-star cast lead by Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris) would have a difficult and controversial production shoot. But over the years it's still pertinent anti-Aparteid era message of brotherhood, accountability and self sacrifice - wrapped in a kick-ass package of high tech military action / derring-do, would lift this holiday season-set thriller from enjoyable firecracker action flick to well loved, buried treasure of a cult film with a timeless social message. A seminal film for an entire generation, THE WILD GEESE is surely one of the most exciting (and touching) "Christmas movies" ever.
