Born to Lithuanian immigrant parents in 1959, Saulius "Saul" Anuzis comes from a working class background. A former member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Saul became, in 1980, the youngest delegate elected to the Republican National Convention.Long a fixture of Michigan politics, Saul was elected Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party in 2005, a post he has held ever since.
Of all the candidates running for National Chairman in 2008, Saul is clearly the most tech savy, with his "That's Saul" blog for the Michigan Republican Party, his Facebook Page and his prominent use of Twitter. Saul is building a base among the Republican base, many of whom believe he is the right candidate to propel the Republican Party into the Internet Age of the 21st Century.
From Saul's website in his campaign for the RNC Chairman position.
The Comeback Starts Now
Saul Anuzis is not your typical Republican State Chairman. He is an unabashed Reagan-conservative with strong opinions about the role of government. He is also one of the most tech savvy chairmen in the country.
Our Republican comeback will be built on principles and ideas.
On November 4, the Republican party lost, our ideas didn’t. Unfortunately, the American people lost their faith in our commitment to those ideas.
# We were once the party that America trusted on national security. But when intelligence failures and poor planning led to unexpected challenges in Iraq, America lost faith in our party.
# We were once the party of fiscal responsibility. But when members of our own party led the way in pork barrel spending, which led to the fattest federal budget in history, America lost faith in our party.
# And we were once the party that had convinced America that we "shared their values". But when Republican after Republican was exposed as a hypocrite that said one thing on the campaign trail and behaved a different way in their personal life, America lost faith in our party.
# Worse yet, the Democrats seized these opportunities to win Americans over on these same issues. They became the party that represented America’s greatest hopes.
