To Dedicate something, a Building; a Ship; a Highway; is to Memorialize it and or offer it up for public service.   When we talk about Dedicating something to the Lord, we are talking about giving a Sacrifice, offering up something or offering up ourselves, for His service.   This concept has been in practice since the beginning of man-kind, as we see Abel (in the Book of Genesis) offer up a Better Sacrifice to God, than his brother Cane.

We see in this week's lesson, the Dedication of the Wall around Jerusalem (after it's re-building), as a memorial to God's mercy and His faithfulness; and as His people Israel, are once again re-united in their own promised land.
