PLEASE NOTE: This is a pre-recorded edited version of Monday's show (11/16/09). I had to fix some things due to technical difficulties. Please do not try to call in tonight! ------------ I hope you tuned in to parts 1 & 2 of this recurring segment because tonight my guest host, MC K~Swift (New Rap Order/Universal Zulu Nation) and I will discuss the era of Hip Hop that followed gangsta rap: the trendsetters and such that popped up and either stayed or faded away after the whole east coast-west coast feud was LITERALLY buried (RIP Biggie & 'Pac). And most importantly, I'll be cracking jokes on how FUGLY Lil Wayne is... no, but seriously, he's FUGLY! Make sure you also stop by the blog and participate in this week's poll: Did Lil Wayne Kill Hip Hop? I'm curious to see that you say...

Artist Spotlight: 3D Ritmo De Vida

I first spoke with Michael Tate of the band 3D Ritmo De Vida back in 2007 to discuss his brand of Salsa for the masses (read the article here: http://www.latinpulsemusic.com/articles/show/31). Now they've dropped a new CD, Que Siga La Rumba, and I've invited Michael to Monday Musings to talk about his creative process, the band, the industry and life as a musician in the NYC area. Tune in... you know you want to!

Child Rearing 101: Surviving Single Parenting

Whether you're the kid or the parent in this situation, it's tough all the way around.

As the parent there aren't enough hours in the day for work, kids, household chores and a semblance of a personal or social life.

As the kid sometimes you're forced by the situation to pick up the slack at home and in turn, lose out on just being a kid.

What are your thoughts? What is/was your experience as a single parent of the child of a single parent? I'd love to hear from you!

Child Rearing 101: Surviving Single Parenthood

Join me and fellow single parent Cathi as we discuss the crazy and complicated world of the single parent. No seriously, you don't want to miss it because we know it's hard as hell to raise kids on your own, and we know that many days you sit and wonder- "What if I didn't have them?" and then feel guilty about thinking that, and that some days you go without (food, new clothes, a night out) because the kids need (to eat, get new clothes, go on a school trip) and their needs come before your own. And we know that at least once you've been on that verge of throwing them across the room and donning that proverbial orange jumpsuit because, dammit, you just can't take it anymore. Trust us, we know. So tune in tonight... you know you want to!

Black History Month: What They Didn't Teach You In School

Our conversation ended up centering more on the validity of having Black History Month more than anything else. And I mean, this is a HUGE topic to try and cover in just one hour, but I hope we were able to jumpstart the discussions in your homes.

Also, take a minute to read this: http://blogxilla.com/blog3/2009/02/02/black-history-month-stupid/

I think the kid in the video makes a point and, well, you can read the comment I left in the blog.

Have anything to add? PLease, by all means, leave me a comment below!!!

Black History Month: What They Didn't Teach You In School

I know people are talking about Black History Month ad nauseum all over the place, but no one will do it like me... okay maybe they will, but whatever... Tune in as The F$%k It List of http://randomishnycsarcasm.blogspot.com joins me in a discussion about the importance and/or necessity of Black History Month, while schooling listeners on the facts that you probably didn't know. Also, callers who share the coolest Black History Month fact (from America or abroad... c'mon, get creative with it!) with us will win a copy of W.E.B. Du Bois' The Souls of Black Folk... so make sure you call in!!
