    Date / Time:

    Interracial Dating

Last night's show was not only fun for me (as usual) but it was informative.

I've said up and down and all around that I have no interest in dating a white guy, all the while ignoring the fact that because I date black men it is still, technically, interracial dating. As in, my babies are bi-racial. Or are they? Should we get into the technicalities of race vs. ethnicity??

My guest host, Muireann brought up some really great points, namely that interracial dating is only a problem when the parties involved are attractive, and mainly more of a problem when the couple is a black man with a white woman.

Do you agree? Or are there black women hating on me, too, for dating black men?

Is this more of a major issue in America, as Muireann hinted to, or is this a global issue?

Does it matter where you grew up/went to school?

And what will this interracial coupling mean for their future bi-racial babies?

Will our world one day just be a whole bunch of different shades of beige running around, as an eventual and unavoidable evolutionary occurrence? And is that good or bad? How will it affect our individual cultures and histories?

I'd love to hear what you all have to say!

First, I thought your show was very interesting and you ladies brought up a lot of good points. I agree that interracial dating is more of an issue when its a black man and a white woman. I've even heard people say, or imply, that if Michelle Obama were white, they would have never voted for Barack. Personally, I find that sentiment disappointing. I dont necessarily agree about interracial dating only becoming a problem when the parties involved are attractive. In fact, if a black man were with a white woman that was considered ugly, black women would have all kinds of beef. Anyway, cant speak to whether or not its a global issue but I do think it matters where you grew up. Seems like people who grew up among an eclectic mix of people really dont have the same hangups about the race of their friends, the racial makeup of where they live, or who they date. That said, I dont believe that there will one day be a bunch of beige b/c no matter what happens, people congregate and find comfort amongst their own. Always have, always will. Although, I dont think that scenario would be a bad thing. I would ask this question though: If we all were the same color/ethnicity/whatever, would that be one less thing to hate on each other about, or would we just focus on something else?
