PLEASE NOTE: This is a pre-recorded edited version of Monday's show (11/16/09). I had to fix some things due to technical difficulties. Please do not try to call in tonight! ------------ I hope you tuned in to parts 1 & 2 of this recurring segment because tonight my guest host, MC K~Swift (New Rap Order/Universal Zulu Nation) and I will discuss the era of Hip Hop that followed gangsta rap: the trendsetters and such that popped up and either stayed or faded away after the whole east coast-west coast feud was LITERALLY buried (RIP Biggie & 'Pac). And most importantly, I'll be cracking jokes on how FUGLY Lil Wayne is... no, but seriously, he's FUGLY! Make sure you also stop by the blog and participate in this week's poll: Did Lil Wayne Kill Hip Hop? I'm curious to see that you say...

    Fashion DON'TS!

You all really missed a hopping good time as Irene and I talked about all the fashion BLECHS out there that makes us cringe...

And we also confessed to some fashion sins of our own! So take a listen to the show and then leave a comment below with your fashion pet peeve or sin; I'd love to hear from you!

If I have to see one more dude walking down the street in a fur coat I'm going to beat him with it. And if one more female thinks that gold capri stretch pants are the move she will get shoved into oncoming traffic! This week on Monday Musings fellow blogger Irene of LoserIrene and the Fat Monster will help me lay out all the fashion faux pas of this season, and the ones we anticipate will irk the hell out of us from the Spring '09 couture lines. You won't want to miss this gabfest from the two former Queens of Fashion at FashionHag.

    What Makes You Latino/a?

So QQ and I had the BEST talk just now about what defines our cultures- both the stereotypes and the realities- and besides that one crazy macho caller who wanted me and Q to be barefoot and pregnant, I think it was an awesome dialogue.

We touched upon the language issue, immigration status, assimilating and whether or not we're a product of nature or nurture.

So listen to the show and give us your thoughts; if you're Latino/a, what defines you, your culture? Why do you consider yourself Latino/a (or in the case of Jessica "Don't Call Me Latina" Alba... why not?)?

If you're not- tell what you identify with and why? Is you reason something that is typically associated with others of your background or culture?

Nosy-ass heifers like me want to know, so leave me your comments!

Latino Heritage Month is coming to a close, so I hope you all learned all you could about the fabulosity that is MY culture...hmmm...MY culture... what does that even mean? That's the topic of our next show: What makes one Latino/a? What defines it? Language? Bloodline? Nature or Nurture? Tune in while fellow Latinalicious bloggers Mari (Confesiones de la Loca) and Qucifer (It's Q's World You Just Live in It) join me to try to break it down for you.

The Evolution of Hip Hop Pt. 1- The Origins

So we kinda went off on a tangent towards the end there, but I'm curious to know what everyone else out there thinks about Hip Hop's humble beginnings... from the basement parties to the playground MCs to the kids break dancing on a piece of cardboard on the corner...

What's your earliest memories of Hip Hop, and what do you think gave the genre such lasting power from the mid 70s to the late 80s?

What made some of those artists obsolete in the 90s?

Why weren't the females, except for a chosen few, ever able to really blow up like the fellas?

Leave your "Funky fresh, dressed to impress, ready to party" comments below...

"Hip-hop - was set out in the dark They used to do it out in the park..." Remember MC Shan? DJ Kool Herc, The Sugar Hill Gang and Marley Marl? Next up on Monday Musings, J of The Liberators of Hip Hop (www.theliberatorsofhiphop.com) will join me for The Evolution of Hip Hop- a three part series discussiong the ever-changing sound and style of rap music. The first installment will touch upon the origins of the genre and the pioneers that brought the music into the mainstream. Check us out- you know you want to listen!
