    Fasting On The High Road

I completed a 3 day fast over this past weekend.  By fast I mean I didn't eat anything (except a cracker on Friday morning when I forgot I was fasting) and didn't drink anything except for water & tea.

Fasting is a practice in most systems of spiritual discipline.  My main reason for doing it was to get centered and reconnect with the God within.  Its good to do that every so often. I also wanted to strengthen my on level of discipline and gain mental clarity for the road ahead.

Along with the spiritual aspect there are many other benefits to fasting.  I actually found that if you have a summertime cold a good 3 day fast will knock it right out of you.  There's a cure for the common cold for free.

Fasting gives your body time to get rid of the toxins that come from the things we eat.  Unless you're growing & eating your own organic supernutrient rich fruit & vegetables what you eat is making you sick.  The key is to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

In fact there is a right way to begin and a right way to end a fast.  Going into it you may think that you should stuff yourself but actually its better to lead up to a fast by gradually eating less & less.  Like training for a big game or competition you have to condition yourself.

When its time to break the fast don't just start gobbling up everything you see.  Its best to start with something light like dates or grapes (or Ranier Cherries yummy :-). Then spread the meal out over a couple of hours.  After you fast you realize you don't need to eat as much so don't over do it or you'll regret it.

All in all It is an enjoyable & enlightening experience that I'd recommend to anyone.  Have you ever done a fast?  Wanna try one?
