Miami Dolphins tight end Dustin Keller's season ended before it could really begin thanks to a dangerous tackle by Houston Texans safety D.J. Swearinger. The immediate reactions were those of shock and awe, but as gruesome as the right knee injury was, Swearinger's comments may have been moreso when it comes to what may be the new reality of the NFL.

"With the rules in this era you've got to hit low. If I would have hit him high, I would have gotten a fine. So I think I made the smartest play. I'm sorry it happened and I pray he has a speedy recovery."

On The Exchange, Sumit & Jason discuss how the continued tweaking of the rulebook could be changing the NFL and football overall for better or worse. They'll talk about the NFL's emphasis on penalizing hitting with the crown of the helmet, the NCAA's focus on targeting and an apparent "low-hit culture" among other matters leading into the season.

They will also provide some observations as training camps come to an end and the "dress rehersals" of the upcoming weekend draw near.
