Your happiness depends on your experience/ view of your actual world matching up to your expectation of it or your ideal world. The closer they are the happier you are.
We find ways to try and create our ideal world so that we can be happy. We do this by meeting our needs, or trying to.
We choose patterns of thoughts and behaviors to get our needs met. Sometimes even if it hurts or leads to unhappiness, we still stick to those familiar patterns for a reason. It feeds a need but there are other ways to meet those needs once we are aware and have choice.
