Welcome to our special Live With The Dementia Whisperer radio show with Laura Wayman, The Dementia Whisperer, Scott Cluthe, my amazing co-host, and our guest today, Judi Greenan.  Judi is a dear friend, a past and present caregiver and  one of my personal hero's. She is the perfect person to share her dementia journey, specific to the many years she cared for her husband whom had Parkinson's disease.  Today Judi will be sharing how the holiday traditions had to change as the disease progressed, and how her grief progressed, too, right up to this years special holiday "transition".  Tune in today and hear her couragous story!

Over 5.2 million people in the US now have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. We all benefit from sharing the holidays with someone we care about. The smells, the sounds, and the sights can bring back happy memories. People with dementia should have this opportunity too.  Today we will be discussing ideas that will ensure you and your loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia a pleasurable holiday season.

Some of these ideas we will be discussing in detail include gifts or strategies such as...

The gift of yourself is one of the best gifts you can give, so spend time  together.

Decorating for Christmas

Singing favorite/familiar Christmas carols

Praying with them:

Carrying on simplified family traditions

Eating/preparing a traditional meal or foods together
