A.Raquel and Mahoghani Dawn will talk with Dr. Kecia Gaither vice chairman and the director of maternal fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. about “What African American Women Should Know About HIV/AIDS.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that African Americans are the racial/ethnic group most affected by HIV in the United States (www.cdc.gov).
Dr. Gaither has co-authored a book The Confident Women, which was written to increase self-confidence and self-esteem. Her chapter deals with issues of self esteem in pregnancy (www.drkeciagather.com). Dr. Gaither's interests are prenatal diagnosis, diabetes, HIV, and obesity in pregnancy.
