Is it a wonder why teenage pregnancy, addictions (sexual and drug addictions) and other unhealthy sex acts are prevalent in our Christian families – since we don’t talk about topics of such? Who wants to admit to having feelings or desires for something they’ve been taught against? Some are natural desires but God forbid if the feelings are a bit on the wild side! Who are you going to tell? Growing up in some of our Christian homes may have contributed to some of the secret struggles (addictions, infidelity, homosexuality, etc) that we face today because of the things some WERE NOT taught and couldn’t talk about. Counseling? What’s that? We don’t talk our business to other people. Right? We’ve touched on this subject before but after having several in-depth conversations with other women in the 30’s and up age group, we felt there was a serious need to explore this topic further. Did your mother ever make statements like: Keep your dress down, Ain’t nothing open late at night but motels and ---! And last but not least, here’s one for you – Keep your legs closed! We laugh but after comparing phrases, it wasn’t so funny after all because some of those statements make sex seem like a taboo or forbidden. Well maybe it should be forbidden at a certain age or time in life, but there’s a right time and place and those times and places should be taught properly. It’s a beautiful thing when you’re with the appropriate person. Join us as we talk about the demons of our past and how we’ve overcome and are overcoming them.
