With the recent diagnosis of clients with Ebola on US soil and the CDC's changing guidelines, nursing educators are engaged in conversations on how this affects students. What are the students saying? With all the information that has been reported and debated in the media, there is no doubt that students may have concerns on how this affect them. Does anyone expect that a nursing student would be asked to care for someone diagnosed with Ebola? Do we have to re-think our approach to education on infection control? Let's have a conversation about that.  00:15:00The Cheryl Spencer Shownoinfection control, nurses, nursing students, precautions, safetyNursing students must enter healthcare facilities to meet the clinical component of nursing education. A vistor to the US has become the first diagnosed case on US soil and now a nurse who cared for this man is infected with the Ebola virus. Nurses are on the frontline when caring for those with communicable diseases. The workplace is a potentially hazardous place for dedicated professions who vow to care for the sick. Nurses ask that they are given the information, guidance and support to safely care for others without putting themselves at risk. We are nurses not martyrs. 00:08:00The Cheryl Spencer ShownoEbola,Ebola virus,Nurses,HealthcareThe Ebola virus has reached American soil.  Workers who contracted the virus in Africa have been brought home for treatment. With a long history of television shows depicting demeaning and sexual stereotypes, nurses are concerned that MTV will be premiering a new reality based show about nurses. Of concern is that this show appears to be similar to the pop culture train wreck called The Jersey Shore. What nurses are asking  for is a fair and equal showcase of the reality of those in the profession. We will see if this show does that. Let's talk about it. 00:19:00The Cheryl Spencer ShownoNurses,Media,Scrubbing In,Portrayal,StereotypesThe image of nurses portrayed in the media and print often has not been a fair representation.
