Upon hearing the word ‘priest’, one usually thinks of a kind, caring, relatable, trustworthy and compassionate man very versed in Biblical knowledge and teachings who is without reproach and incapable of malice or inflicting harm upon anyone. What happens when a priest’s behavior embodies the very opposite of those attributes previously mentioned? What happens when those men whose primary role is to be religious guides in our communities turn out to be the ones preying sexually upon us and our children? What happens when governing officials of a church not only receive news of child molestation and turn a blind eye to these horrible acts but also pardon or forgive the person committing them? Does the church truly have the authority to be this dismissive? Do the victims of these atrocities receive any justice? What does the Holy Bible state about occurrences like these? Where do we as parents draw the line? How do we as parents protect our children against sexual predators or pedophiles disguised as distinguished clergymen and priests?
