BiBles with diverse Images ~Wade Hudson, Publisher and Founder of Just Us Books

Wade Hudson, Publisher and CEO of Just Us Books, reminisces on profound childhood events which laid the Christian foundation for his company’s mission (preserving African American history and images). As a child troubled by segregation, he wrote a letter expressing his sentiments to Attorney General Robert Kennedy. Amazingly, Mr. Kennedy responded. Little Wade upon receipt of the Kennedy’s letter began to gravitate towards activism, acts of faith and courage. However, some of his neighbors were concerned. Attorney General Kennedy’s letter symbolized trouble. Needless to say, Mr. Hudson’s spirit of activism and Christianity has culminated in one of his latest projects, the publication of Bibles written for the young African American Christian reader. They are due to be released by Zondervan later this year. Wade and Cheryl Hudson over two decades ago were parents on a desperate search for children’s books that reflected the diversity of Black history, heritage and experiences. Disappointed by the limited number and their unreliable availability, the couple embarked upon a mission: to produce the kind of positive, vibrant Black-interest books that they wanted for their own two children. So in 1987 the Hudsons published the AFRO-BETS, Alphabet book. Their reputation for excellence has attracted celebrated authors such as Omar Tyree. Mr. Tyree's book 12 Brown Boys is receiving notable acclaim.

Debate ~ Are African American Holidays,i.e.,MLK and Juneteenth Day Effective?

Get your paper and pens ready!! Join our discussion with Dr. Meyers author of the book, "Juneteenth a Celebration of Freedom". Rev. Ronald Myers, Sr., M.D., Chairman of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation successfully lobbied 31 states to ratify Juneteenth as a national holiday. The official Juneteenth Holiday began in 1994. Dr. Meyers takes us on a journey to the ratification of Juneteenth Day. Guiding us methodically throuh the trails blazed by the advocates for Martin Luther King day, we gain a sense of the masterful networking invovled in ratifying a holiday. Equally important, his story gives a new found appreciation for African American holidays and their lobbyists. Tonight's show exemplifies the significance of using political science and civic lessons as a mean of empowering our historic legacy. This weeks panelists ~ Dr. Meaders, history professor, Judi Belle Raines, Phillip Howell, NYC television producer, Radio Host, Jerry Butleer.
