The Al Woods Show Tune in to The Al Woods Show weeknights on Blog Talk Radio at 7:00pm Eastern time. The Al Woods Show covers high school and college sports and sometimes a little pro sports. The show is mainly about high school sports and recruiting information to help high school student athletes and parents make better decisions as it relates to getting recruited by college programs. We occasionally have a guest or two, from college coaches to sports writers and bloggers. The show is fast-paced and gives you great information. I often express my opinion on the many great topics and callers are welcome to express theirs as well. I started as a college recruiter helping thousands of high school student athletes get placed in college. Now I want to talk about recruiting and how I can help high school student athletes. My blog is about the subject of college recruiting and many other sports-related topics. There are a great many talk shows out there; some good, some great and others just winging it but so what right? I get to do a show every day and it’s a lot of fun! I enjoy talking about the fact that I grew up doing and that’s playing sports. I loved every level of sports as a high school and college basketball player especially getting a chance to play overseas in Argentina back in the 1980’s. So I would say that I know a thing or two about sports. I’ve always followed sports and I remember my very first sporting event was a San Francisco Giants baseball game when I was about 8 years old. Enjoy Sports Talk With Al Woods and remember: if you can’t listen live at 7:00pm that’s okay because we have archives of each show so you can you can listen to any show. I hope you do! Please give me your feedback of the show or of me.

My name is Al Woods and I’ve been a college recruiter for almost 20 years but I want to do more to help high school student athletes get in college so, starting real soon I will be offering a free college recruiting service to all high school student athletes. There are hundreds of college recruiting services on the Internet asking for a lot of money and that’s okay. But I will be giving student athletes the same service that the paid services offer—free. On today’s show, I will outlining what it is I will do.

We all love out sports, whether its college or the pros. Have you ever had season tickets to either a pro team or college team? If so, how was that experience? Did you enjoy the games, was it fun or was it a waste of money?

Sounds like a funny question regarding whether someone deserves a scholarship but many high school athletes out there think that they deserve a scholarship even though many athletes can’t even play at the college level. First of all, there are only so many college scholarships to give each year and the last thing a college program wants to do is give up one of their valuable scholarships to some high school athlete who hasn’t shown that he or she can play the college game.

There are thousands of college recruiting services in the country. Some do a great job of helping high school student athletes get exposure to college programs. Many of these recruiting services charge a fee--some charge as low as $300 and some charge over $1,000. What you get from these so-called college recruiting services are things like a Profile on the student athlete; some services will mail out your DVD’s to college programs but mostly the college recruiters will email your Profile to hundreds of college coaches. The hard part is knowing which service to use or if you should use one at all.

According to be Recruited.com website there are 235 division one college football programs in the county and there are not even 10 African Americans head coaches at the major college level. Now that’s a shame, don’t you think?

There are situations where athletes and their parents were not sure about what to do in the recruiting process. For example, one basketball player I was working with was only interested in Division I basketball programs even though there were no Division I programs recruiting him. This young man wanted me to get in touch with some of the best programs in the country. I told him that if they weren’t recruiting you now, more than likely they would never recruit you. But he would not listen to reason.

I was reading somewhere on a website a father talking about his son not getting any division offers even though they’d heard from five D-1 programs. The father goes on to say that they have also heard from a lot of Division-2 football programs but still can’t understand why not D-1.
