  $0Banned Book Week$0$0This week is Banned Book Week!$0$0Banned Books Week is the only national celebration of the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982. The challenges have occurred in every state and in hundreds of communities.$0$0In support of banned book week, you might want to read my vampire novels, The Dancing Valkyrie and The Vampire Valkyrie.$0$0While neither book has been officially banned, both have been rejected by some local book stores for the usual reasons: too much explicit sex, too many four letter words, religious viewpoints not compatible with the Christian Right, etc.$0$0The fact of the matter is many books are prevented from reaching a wide audience because of content. To the best of my knowledge, Amazon will list anything published, as they do mine, but many book stores quietly ban what they deem inappropriate - which can be anything.$0$0For more info, go to http://www.bannedbooksweek.org/$0

  Lieutenant Raymond E. Foster, LAPD (ret.) will discuss his book "Leadership: Texas Hold 'em Style"

  The co-author of Leadership: Texas Hold ‘em Style, Lieutenant Raymond E. Foster, LAPD (ret.) will be a guest on the Internet-based radio program Adirondack Book House, Friday, Sept 4 at 10 p.m. ESTDST. Using poker as analogy for leadership, Captain Andrew Harvey, CPD (ret.), Ed.D. and Lieutenant Raymond E. Foster, LAPD (ret.), MPA found the right mix of practical experience and academic credentials to write a definitive book for leaders. Working together, Harvey and Foster have written Leadership: Texas Hold em Style. Most often leaders find they are given a set of resources people, equipment, funds, experience and a mission. As Foster noted, "You're dealt a certain hand. How you play that hand as a leader determines your success."
