REAL Miami Vice! Author of “REFLECTIONS FROM THE PIT”

Lt. Michael Berish (Retired-M.P.D.) of the REAL Miami Vice! Author of “REFLECTIONS FROM THE PIT” This book pulls no punches. It shows you the dark side of police work: the good, the bad and the ugly (warts & all), both the humor and the tragedy. WEBSITE: www.realmiamivice.com BLOG SITE: www.realmiamivice.net Michael Berish graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. and earned his M.A. from Barry University. Mike worked for the City of Miami Police Department for twenty-two years; thirteen of which were spent as an undercover detective in the REAL Miami Vice where he worked everything from Narcotics & Vice, Prostitution, Gambling and ography, to Dignitary Protection of President Jose Napoleon Duarte (of El Salvador) and Pope John Paul II. Bad things happen in "the Pit," a notorious crime-infested ghetto in downtown Miami. "REFLECTIONS FROM THE PIT" is not just another collection of rehashed police stories with shootouts and car chases. These stories contain individual, quirky, off-center personalities and focuses on their basic character flaws, while dealing with social issues of the day: racism, sexism, prejudice, teenage prostitution, police brutality and its senseless violence, the murdering of transvestites, the stupidity of criminals, the cowardice of police officers, affirmative action, Cuban freedom fighters a.k.a. terrorists, hangings from police cruisers, drug-dealing cops and corruption, bungled police stings, the “don’t get involved” syndrome and the raping of the elderly. These reflections, which cover more than one hundred years of history, give one pause for thought and a peek into the human swamp of life. This book pulls no punches: it shows you the good, the bad and the ugly; the dark side of police work, both the humor and the tragedy. When you are done reading it, hopefully, you’ll say to yourself: “I never knew people, much less cops, like this ever

Steven Clark Bradley discusses his novel Patriot Acts

Author Steven Clark Bradley discusses his novel Patriot Acts Bradley says, "Today, America is at war with religious radicals who are hell-bent on destroying Western civilization. We have seen what radical religious fanatics can do to bring a peaceful nation to war. Read "Last Ounce of Devotion" from my next novel, Patriot Acts and see what would happen if our own brand of fanatics, right here at home, teamed up with the Islamic radicals with whom we are at war abroad? The concept is both challenging and lethal! What can turn a child into an extremist?" In Patriot Acts, America finds itself under covert nuclear attack from a unified force of the Islamic Republic of Iran and radical American Militia groups; setting aside their political and religious differences to carry out the widest and deadliest attack on America in the nation's history. In the midst of an unsure, newly inaugurated presidency, the attack is discovered and the new President must forgo the honeymoon and take grave and massive actions to spare the nation.

    G. Lloyd Helm author of DESIGN

    G. Lloyd Helm is a philosopher who believes science fiction stories should be more than a diversion. They should make the reader think and question the universe, and for thirty years he has been writing just such stories. In his book DESIGN, Javi Holis, eldest some of a successful family of tapestry makers, joins a group of religious recluses. He discovers powers hidden in a collection of Mandala designs and spends his life learning how to use them in the service of the go called the Maker of All. When a technologically superior galactic empire invades the world of Javi Holis, the invaders are considered gods. The book of Design must be preserved at all costs. G. Lloyd Helm has been writing for about thirty years and has published poetry (two Chap books available from the publisher MousePrints Publishing) short stories in some very obscure magazines, including a SF short stories called “Pandemic” (2006) and “Silbury Hill” (2007), published in the English Magazine DELIVERED, a short memoir in Pilgrimage Literary Magazine (2005), a short story called “Blood” in Eureka Literary Magazine (2005); he is the 2006 winner of the Antelope Valley Literacy Coalition Short Story prize for his story “A Tale of Segovia’s Guitar.” Helm has published numerous essays in various newspapers around the world including the Washington Times, the L.A. The Chemist by Dr. Janson Mancheski

Dr. Janson Mancheski, a long-time fan of crime dramas, took his hobby one step further as he started to research the real-life criminal investigation process for his new book, The Chemist (Bridgeway Books, 2008). What he soon discovered was a large gap in the portrayal of detective work on TV versus what goes on in reality. “I’ve always loved coming home from work and journeying into the world of crime fiction,” says Mancheski, who has worked in the scientific field for more than 20 years as an optometrist. “Unfortunately, many people are unaware of how much television shows compromise the accuracy and breadth of forensic investigations.” In his new thriller novel, The Chemist," Mancheski works to show readers how intricate, prolonged and often-frustrating real-life detective work can be. His book follows homicide detective Cale Van Waring who must battle personal and professional problems while investigating a series of unsolvable kidnappings in Green Bay, Wis. The abductions, six females spanning two years, involve a psychotic kidnapper, self-titled “The Chemist,” who uses a mixture of date-rape drugs and fast-absorbing chemicals to overcome his victims. The solution, applied to car door handles, is easily absorbed into the skin leaving no traces or leads for detectives on the case. Van Waring must work to piece together a myriad of un-linkable clues, from suspect Packers players, to a gas-station homicide, before time is up and the missing girls are lost forever.
