A Lesson Plan for Teachers, New and Old

A Lesson Plan for Teachers, New and Old Michele Luck is old school, meaning she is the type of teacher whom those of us who bade farewell to 40 long ago had in school. She takes no excuses, accepts no labels and sets high standards. She believes she is a good teacher and she loves teaching. Because of that, and because she realizes there's a lot that new teachers need to know and older teachers need to be reminded of, Luck wrote a book: A Lesson Plan for Teachers, New and Old: A Guide for Student Teachers, New Teachers, and the Experienced Ones! This step-by-step guide will be the perfect handbook for the student teacher, a new teacher, or an experienced teacher hoping to make their classroom more successful in the coming school year. Lucks says, "It was written for my student teacher. The book is a great guide which covers all aspects of an effective, efficient, high-expectations classroom. From organization to the first day of school to dealing with administrators and co-workers, this book talks the teachers through the basics with simple hints, easy to use templates, and great little stories and examples. Topics such as Special Education modifications and grading efficiently are also covered. This 82 page guide is easy to read, and a great tool to use to guide you into your first day of the new school year.

Author Ara 13 will discuss his novel "Drawers & Booths"

With more than 15 years experience as a writer - a military journalist, civilian news correspondent, columnist and now international awardwinning novelist, Ara 13 has emerged as one of the publishing industry's "Indie Sensations." In addition to his unusual last name, 13 is garnering attention on the literary scene for his signature metafiction writing style, recently showcased in his international award-winning book, Drawers & Booths. The son of professional photographer parents, 13 was born into the arts in 1971 in Newton, N.J. He spent his childhood in Hackettstown and attended private high school outside Princeton before joining the United States Marine Corps as a combat correspondent. During his military career, 13 developed a strong passion for the written word, his skills honed by the U.S. Department of Information Services where he was trained as a journalist for print, radio and television. For his work in the military, 13 received medals from the Navy, Air Force, Army and Marines. From 1992 to 1996, 13 served as a combat correspondent for the Marine Corps, covering Air Squad deployments to the war in Bosnia as well as Marine presence during civil unrest in Haiti. Later, as a special operations soldier for the Army, 13 covered civil affairs actions occurring in the Mideast and Africa. Between military stints, 13 co-created a literary magazine, Sisyphus On Strike, in Atlanta, Ga., in 1996. Never one to take life too seriously, Ara legally changed his last name from Hirsch to 13 in 1998, "mainly because it's funny," he said. In addition to working in news media, throughout the last 10 years, 13 gained experience in a variety of writing outlets including commercial and script writing for Grey Sky Productions, freelance writing for national publications, and authoring featured book reviews for CriticsandMonsters.com, in addition to his lauded entrance into the arena of the novel. Ara 13 moved to Galveston, Texas, in 2006, to realize his professional goal of

Author Donald Greco talks about his new book "Abramo’s Gift"

Donald Greco discovered the social and racial prejudices taking place in America at an early age. Born in 1940 to an Irish-American mother and an Italian-American father, he witnessed firsthand society’s disapproval surrounding his parents’ marriage. Greco draws from his parents’ marriage and his Italian-Irish legacy in his new novel, Abramo’s Gift (Bridgeway Books, October 2008). Abramo’s Gift is a realistic depiction of Italian and Irish immigrants in 1920 Youngstown, Ohio. The family saga follows an Italian immigrant who helps bring about change in a time of social unrest as Italian and Irish immigrants struggle to live with one another. “The most important message in Abramo’s Gift is that ordinary people can achieve greatness in their own quiet ways, not by wealth or high attainment, but by finding love and grace in the people around them,” Greco says. Much of the story takes place in Greco’s hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. “When I was growing up, Youngstown was a wonderful place to live,” he says. “It is located in the Mahoning River Valley amid rolling hills and beautiful parklands. At its peak, it had about 140,000 inhabitants with a remarkable amount of cultural diversity.” For more information, please visit www.bookpros.com.

Paul Damien discusses his new book, “Help! Debunking the Outrageous Claims of Self-Help Gurus.”

“Help! Debunking the Outrageous Claims of Self-Help Gurus. humorously pokes holes in the persona of today’s most popular self-help authors, revealing their methods to be nothing more than non-ideas sugar-coated with marketing buzzwords. Damien combines straightforward logic and biting humor to dissect the self-help genre and offer readers the nonsensical skills to write their own self-help books. Readers are given the inside scoop on the linguistic manipulations employed by popular authors, as well as the brand of “quantum-Hinduism” so prevalent in today’s bestsellers. The Secret has brought pseudo-spiritual self-help books back into the forefront of public dialogue. Beginning with the popularity of Deepak Chopra in the 1990s, the self-help genre has spawned a tribe of author-gurus each claiming to have the answer to personal fulfillment. But are these authors providing helpful and coherent ideas about dealing with life’s issues, or are they merely selling snake oil disguised as self-help? Visit his site at www.pauldamien.net
