Amari Magdalena founded the Institute for Shamanic Synthesis in 1995 to promote cross-cultural shamanism and foster attitudes of unconditional love, acceptance, brotherhood and peace. She has taught shamanic techniques and complimentary alternative medicine tools for colleges, universities, bookstores, corporations, small groups, family therapy clinics and large spiritual organizations nationally and internationally. She apprenticed with don Miguel Angel Ruiz (author of The Four Agreements--a Toltec Nagual) and studied Curanderismo, Celtic, Cherokee and Peruvian shamanism. The diversity of her shamanic exposures plus her own multi-ethnic background (Celtic, Slavic, Mongolian) led Magdalena toward the concept of shamanic synthesis.
Prior to an early retirement in 2005, Magdalena was a corporate Human Resources Director, Trainer and Public Health Educator working primarily for non-profit service industries. Currently she is an Interfaith Minister, Reiki Master, Healer, Teacher, Ceremonialist, Artist, Writer and Spiritual Coach. Magdalena has taught for Central New Mexico Community College Emeritus Academy since the fall of 2002 presenting a wide variety of courses in alternative healing and core shamanism. In 2006 she began facilitating Elderhostel programs on spiritual topics and retreats. Amari was a featured speaker in 2007 at the Realization Resource Academy Annual Conference in Flagstaff AZ. In Spring 2008, Magdalena will teach a course for University of New Mexico’s Osher Lifelong Learning Center.
In 1998 she produced and hosted a talk radio show in Phoenix AZ, “Shaman Talk” which explored multi-cultural shamanism traditions with a variety of prestigious guests. In the late 1980’s she co-produced and hosted a Women’s television talk show featuring better known celebrities and more common real life women talking about the complexities of the issues they were facing.
Magdalena holds a Master’s in Divinity and has been affiliated with the Universal Brotherhood Movement since 1993. She has written and published articles on shamanism in magazines and newspapers nationwide. Amari has written well over 2500 pages of information on all aspects of shamanism and has a book in progress. She has also been a guest speaker/presenter on radio talk shows and at whole life expos in Atlanta Georgia and Tucson Arizona.
