In today's broadcast we will be discussing the origin and development of Christian Theology. The Jesus Movement of the first century of our era gave birth to a new community of faith called the Way which would become known as the Church. Within this first generation of the Church something new would emerge. It was first century Christianity that invented the intellectual discipline which would become known as theology. Many have proposed different explanations as to what theology is but perhaps the best statement that captures the essence of this discipline is simply “Faith seeking understanding.” The first to begin this historic process of intellectual discourse of theology is the Apostle Paul. It can be said that Peter and the other apostles could tell us what had happened in the Christ event and what Jesus had taught as eye witnesses and the first recipients of the words of Jesus. But it was the Apostle Paul who could tell us what these things meant for humanity and the world. Since that time, the followers of Christ have been in constant conversation as to the meaning of Jesus and the events of His life. This conversation is what we call theology. Join me as we examine these very important biblical and historical questions as people of faith seeking understanding.
