The Secrets of the Vedas - Part 2

Today we shall continue the exploration of the Secrets of the Vedas, with Sri Aurobindo as our rishi guide.   To decode the inner meaning of the Vedas and appreciate their urgent relevance for our times, we have to start with Sri Aurobindo's The Secret of the Veda.  Though his revelation of the Veda's esoteric and psychological significance has been in print for close to 100 years, it has itself been a tightly kept secret from modern minds that might be curious as to why the Veda is so venerated to this day.  For example, there is no mention of Sri Aurobindo, or The Secret of the Veda, in the Hinduism entry in the supposedly reliable Encyclopedia Britannica, which recently went out of print! 

In The Age of Ananda, the Rishi of Ananda says: "A proper understanding of the Veda is possible only when the interpreter and the reader are both attuned to the consciousness of a rishi.  And in recent times the combination of rishic revelation, spiritual intuition, and psychological insight needed to decode the Veda has come primarily from Sri Aurobindo, the great Brahmarishi, Mahayogi, and Avatar of the 20^th century."

"The reason I emphasize that we should turn to a source such as Sri Aurobindo is that most scholars, be they Indian or Western, typically lack the rishic faculties needed to catch the esoteric essence of the Vedas.  The Veda herself asks, “Of what use are these mantras to the one who cannot see?”  

So we will begin our study of the Vedas with The Secret of the Veda.  We will also explore the power of the Vedic mantras,  which is evoked by their proper chanting according to a millennia old living tradition that was recognized by UNESCO in 2003 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.  OM
