The Open Stage

The Open Stage features the best of the Washington D.C./Baltimore area singer/songwriters, including members of the Songwriter's Association of Washington. Each show will feature an interview and music from a different songwriter, and we'll talk about song inspiration, the songwriting process, and of course, tracks from artists' CDs and upcoming shows to attend.

The Open Stage featuring performers from the Songwriters' Showcase at the Smithsonian

Michelle will interview and play songs from four of the 12 finalists who will be performing at the Songwriter's Showcase at the Smithsonian on October 27th -- Margot MacDonald, Laura Baron, Sol Creech and Talia Segal-- as well as Fred Cannon, Senior Vice President of Government Relations for BMI. In addition to the finalists, Lamont Dozier, legendary Motown songwriter for The Supremes, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye, will perform that night. Be sure to tune in for this special show! The concert is produced by The Smithsonian Associates, SAW (Songwriter's Association of Washington) and BMI. For more info visit www.saw.org

  • Original Air Date:

The Open Stage with King Lewman

Michelle's guest will be King Lewman, an ensemble led by husband/wife duo Kristan KING and Lance LEWMAN and also featuring Marv Egolf on bass and vocals. KING LEWMAN has been compared to the Beatles (Music Monthly), James Taylor, Elton John and the Eagles (John Palumbo of Crack the Sky); yet they are also described as having a "sound uniquely their own" (Baltimore Examiner). They combine elements of acoustic pop, folk, blues, country, alternative, jazz and classical music. We will play songs from their latest CD, Going Somewhere, and also talk about their upcoming show at the One World Coffeehouse on October 24th.
