The Open Stage features the best of the Washington D.C./Baltimore area singer/songwriters, including members of the Songwriter's Association of Washington. Each show will feature an interview and music from a different songwriter, and we'll talk about song inspiration, the songwriting process, and of course, tracks from artists' CDs and upcoming shows to attend.

    Award-winning Singer songwriter Laura Baron will join Michelle to talk about her music, including her new CD, Scenes from the Avenue and her upcoming shows. Laura's style combines the laid back groove of easy jazz, the dark undertones of soulful blues and the heartfelt melodies of the singer songwriter alone on a quiet stage. Her voice has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Shawn Colvin. Laura has won many awards for her songwriting, including most recently, a 2008 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Gold Award in the Jazz/Blues Category for her song, Kindness Don't Rest Easy.
