Ulysses "Butch" Slaughter, Founder of The Odyssey Project talks about an inspiring new campaign called The Lazarus Project. A powerful community campaign, The Lazarus Project aims to restore dignity and hope in communities where trauma has threatened the future. The current campaign focuses on a young man named Shakiyl Smith who at age 21, was shot and paralyzed August 17, 2012 in Chester, Pa. He was 17 at the time of the shooting; the shooter was never identified or arrested. Today Shakiyl and a growing number of his supporters have asked the shooter to voluntarily come forward to an attorney and help Shakiyl raise money for his medical expenses. We do not want the shooter (referred to as "Lazarus") to be charged, arrested or even publicly identified. We want the shooter to work through attorney-client confidentiality and help Shakiyl walk again.
