I suppose a little introduction is in order.For those who don't know me, I am Maisha. Under my blackplanet screename, Losing_My_Mind, I moderate several groups including: "The Full Has Nevah Been Told", "I Am Black Studies", and "Black, Conscious, Aware and United". My educational background is in theology, having studied at The Earl Paulk Institute, and in early childhood education. However, black studies and writing have for a long time been my passions, and so I have combined them via internet discussion groups.As for my personal life, I have three beautiful children who enrich my life and keep me constantly on the go. I am currently working on several books of poetry and short stories. My co-host, Terrance (aka blackplanet's own Public_Enemy1914), has his background in Black Studies. The brother is a powerful intellectual force to be reckoned with. Seriously. I am hoping he will write his own introduction as any that I write would be invariably skewed by my deep admiration for the him, but in the meantime I encourage you all to check out our group page http://groups.blackplanet.com/iamblackstudies to get a better understanding of this brother in his own words. Each week, we wil be hosting two shows that we hope will both enlighten and entertain you as our audience. Terrance and I will be moderating discussions centering on the preservation of black storytelling traditions, both written and oral. To that effect, our topics will cover history, literature, music, politics, and current events from our own perspective and in our words. For too long, Africa and Africans have been examined through eurocentric viewpoints, and thus our spirituality and way of being has been misinterpreted. We are here to reinterpret ourselves.
