June 19 marks the date that for States like Texas, the Emanncipation Proclamation was finally enacted and those held in slavery were finally freed. Known as Juneteenth, it is a celebration of a long awaited emancipation that others in the country already knew had come. December 18 marks the anniversary of the signing of the 13th Amendment, freeing the enslaved, or perhaps only transferring slavery to the penal institutions, nevertheless it is a significant day in history. Dr. Ronald Meyers joins Mama Dee to discuss the question, should these days be marked by official celebrations and commemorations in order to teach true American history to American children?
